It's my first day of my 365 days of writing challenge. Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good challenge, especially in recent years. The best challenge is one against myself - so see how far I can travel, how long I can run, how much I can push myself. I love it.
Anyway, turning another year older made me want to start a new challenge - something to make the year just that much more special. I've been wanting to write more so this seemed like a perfect choice.
It's my birthday today so of course Facebook is helping to reconnect me with many people that I've met over the last few years of travel. Even Google posted a new "Google" of candles to celebrate my birthday! Did everyone else see this? I'm either a celebrity and didn't know it or Google has wayyyyy to much power.
Getting back to the point of this post.... Sometimes, as bad as it sounds, I lose track of all the people I've met while travelling. Here are just a few that sprang to mind this morning --
- Blair: an awesome chick who I met on a contiki in Australia. She makes me look so boring but man, she's good for a laugh. I spent my birthday and christmas with her last year and can't wait to see her again.
- Claire: a diver that I met in the Philippines. I wish we would have spent more time together then but we've managed to keep in touch and have even gotten together a few times in Melbourne, once last November before I left Aus and then again in April when I was back working there.
- Ross Crust: maybe my oldest diving buddy but one of the best. A kiwi that mostly lives in Australia on the Gold Coast. We met on a liveabored dive boat on the Great Barrier Reef. I hope one day we'll dive together again.
One day done...363 to go...
